Anciently, Indian system of Medicine “THE AYURVEDA” was divided in eight parts by Rishi Mahrishi etc. They inscribed the following text in the books :
The time when human got in the shackles of Diseases and felt the need for some rescue- our ancient great sheers (Dhanavatri, Punarvasu, Attreya, Bhrdwaj, Nimi, Kshyap etc. ) went to Shritritum (Indra) and asked what is the way which leads to:
- Dharma i.e. Creed, Virtuous proper life
- Artha i.e. Prosperity with cessation which leads to
- Kama i.e. emotional fulfilment and
- Moksha i.e. self-actualisation
And the path is not full of Life- threatening diseases. The human today is suffering from 1000 of ailments and the way to spirituality is not even visible to any extent?
In the answer Shritritum(Indra) provided the Ashtang Ayurveda which he gained from Pitamah(lord) Brahma.

- Kaya :Nowadays it is popularly known as KAYACHIKITSA(Medicine)”cure of diseases affecting the body”. Human body continuously undergoes anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism refers to the construction happening in the body so we entitle it as Constructive Anabolism whereas; Catabolism refers to the Destruction happening in the body, which is balancing part of the body. These are the retro gate chemical changes happening in the body due to its metal vibes. The system which these two process exhibit is continuously and regularly performed in the human body. The constituent due to which it is so regularly performed ANNA(Food) is the second and proper entitlement of “KAYA”.
In the Full literature of Ayurveda Kaya is presented in brief in 3 parts. This is same as Mental nature:
- SATVIK KAYA : It is elaborated in seven mental constitutions.
- RAJAS KAYA : It is elaborated in six mental constitutions.
- TAMAS KAYA: It is elaborated in three mental constitutions.
Six stages of development of disease were known including aggravation, accumulation, overflow, relocation, buildup in new site & manifestation into a recognizable disease. Finding & alleviating the main cause of disease was the main goal of Ayurveda. Disease is seen as imbalance of humours(doshas) according to seven physical constitutions (sharirik prakriti). Ayurveda creates balance by supplying deficient humours & reducing the excess. This full division of Kaya is on the basisof SATVA. (Satva sharir ka bal hota h. )
Nowadays it is popularly known as Kaumar-Bhritya or Bal-Rog (Pediatrics). Basically this branch refers to “Treatment of children”. Prenatal & postnatal care of mother & baby are in brief described here . Topics such as ways to up-bringing, breast feeding, remedies from the kitchen, methods of conception, choosing the child’s gender, intelligence, childhood diseases & midwifery are mentioned.
Nowadays it is popularly known as Bhutvidya (Psychiatry, Demonology, Exorcism)-Basically it refers to the “treatment of mental diseases supposed to be produced by past experiences”. By the outbreak and fury of God(paratma), Ancestors(pitra), Demons, when diseases are caused these are covered in this branch. The treatment constitutes gifts, prayer etc and the elements which provide them relief.
Nowadays it is popularly known as Shalakya tantra ( i.e. Supraclavicular region those are Eye, Ear , Nose & Throat diseases )- Basically it refers to the “cure of diseases of the eye or ear etc. by sharp instruments”. For these diseases the Ayurveda which exists is referred to this branch. Sushruta describes approximately 76 eye diseases, surgical procedures for all eye disorders, nose, throat.
Nowadays it is popularly known as Shalya Tantra( Surgery )- Basically it refers to “removal of any substance which has entered the body (as extraction of darts, iron, sand, hair, splinters, etc.)”. More than 2000 years ago, sophisticated methods of surgery was known. The base of plastic surgery and other surgeries, orthopaedics was also embedded in Sushruta viz. rhinoplasty, methods for correcting bone fractures, dislocations and other treatements etc.
Nowadays it is popularly known as Agad Tantra(Toxicology)- Basically it refers to the “doctrine of antidotes”. When any animal such as snake, insect, spider bite occurs the dealings are proceeded through Agadtantra. This word was used by great Shushruta It may include some part of Swasthvrat(SPM) as : This topic includes air pollution and in some part of the content water pollution, toxins in animals, vegetables, minerals, friuts & epidemics, as well as keys for recognizing these anomalies & their antidotes but it is not stated by sheers..
Nowadays it is popularly known as Rasayana Tantra ( Elixirs )- Basically it refers to the “doctrine of Rejuvenation”. This specifically deals with the betterment of immunological powers of the body. Prevention from disease & longevity are discussed in this branch. Charaka has stated that in order to develop longevity , ethics & virtuous living must be embraced.
Nowadays it is popularly known as Vajikarana Tantra ( Aphrodisiacs )–Basically It refers to the “doctrine of physical, sexual and spiritual empowerment”.This section deals mainly with two aspects namely: infertility ( for those hoping to conceive ) & spiritual development ( for those eager to transmute sexual energy into spiritual energy ).
